"Be still and know that I AM God"

In the moments of uncertainty, we get restless because we have no blueprint to layout step by step what is going to happen next. The road to next can be very tricky, actually we make it that way.

We walk by faith and not by sight, so whenever you can't see where you're going then know that God is giving you a platform to increase your faith. It will most likely be very uncomfortable, but you will come out stronger than before.

One of the hardest responses I ever got from the Lord was "be still'.

Err...

"Are we both seeing the circumstances at hand? Can you see I’m fast approaching the end of the line?"

"All you say is 'be still' as if that changes anything"

But it does change things, just not in the way and time frame that we would like. Being still for some reason is associated with idleness which explains the reason why we don't want to be found in that season. Looking more closely into it I have discovered a few things.

Firstly, my outward work is useless if I don't have the faith to propel it to the next level. Take a seed for example, just because I plant it doesn't mean it will grow especially when I have zero faith in the one who causes the increase, God (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). I want you to take your heart off thinking that works is the ONLY way to get to where God wants you to be. Yes, faith without works is dead (James 2:20) but the action God wants you to take first is inward.

It involves you just being still, meaning not taking matters into your own hands, and moving in faith when He speaks. Just like Abraham who believed God when He said he should sacrifice his son. James 2 reminds us of how Abraham’s belief was counted onto him as righteousness. In other words, work as it relates to the bible can be described as faith in action. Abraham’s faith in God caused him to take action and that faith was what pleased God.

Secondly, the period of being still exposes the idols we have in our lives. It’s almost like a torch light that shines into the very cores of a person’s soul and reveals the truth. I am being challenged with this and I noticed I worry too much about people's perception. Oh what would they think if they knew? What if they don’t understand?

In reality their perception doesn't change the plan God has for me, it really does not matter what they think because they hold no power over my destiny. Another thing I saw in myself was that I valued being able to provide for myself rather than letting God provide for me. In other words, I was stealing God's glory while proclaiming He was my provider. He gets the glory when He provides for us, but when we take on His job and provide based off our own plans we steal His shine.

Trust me these seasons are never easy, but best believe that all the torment of uncertainty in our minds now cannot be compared to the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 says it best:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Whatever season you are in whether it’s the “still” season or not just have faith in the assurances that God has given. Faith is hanging on to God & His promises even when what you see goes against everything He has promised. Remember that we do not walk by sight rather by faith in things not seen but hoped for (Hebrews 11:1).

Now in conclusion, I want to draw your attention to Psalms 46:10:

“Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

You were created to bring glory to God. Every situation whether good or bad even if we don’t understand it will work out in God’s time, and our purpose will be fulfilled. Trust God and walk in faith as His Spirit leads. Stay blessed!

Prayer point
Lord, please help me to trust you even when I can’t see what lies ahead of me. Teach me how to let you led my life and take away any pride from my heart that may draw me away from your plan. Father give me faith like Abraham, so that I can trust you with the gifts you have given me freely knowing that your plan is perfect. All this we ask in Jesus name. AMEN!
